NEAR MISS – EXCAVATION

NEAR MISS - EXCAVATION

This is with reference to recent incident happened at one of our Project site. Details of the incident are given below. If you are doing similar type of excavation job at your site, this incident is a learning lesson for you.

At around 18.00 hrs., while shifting excavated soil from one place to another, mechanical excavator (Crawler mounted) got slipped into the nearby excavated pit and hit the reinforcement bars inside the excavated pit. Fortunately no one was working inside the excavated pit at that time and driver also didn’t receive any injury.

But the incident has the potential to cause major injury, if someone would have working inside the pit at the time of incident. Prima facie it is evident from the picture that no hard barricading was provided on the edge of excavated pit (only barricading tape were in place).
