Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules 2000

They have 8 rules and 1 schedule.

Rule 2 has 8 definitions including zone, court, educational institutions, hospital etc.

The area within 100 meters around hospitals, educational institutions and courts may be declared as a silence zone. Area categorization should be made as industrial, commercial, residential or silence zone as shown in the Schedule (R 3).

Noise levels shall not exceed levels specified in the Sch. as under (R 4).

Written permission is necessary to use a loudspeaker or a public address system. They cannot be used between 10 pm and 6 am except in closed premises like auditoria, conference rooms, community halls, banquet halls, etc. State Government has the power to permit use between 10 pm to 12 midnight subject to terms and conditions.
