10.1 Pathways
- Surface: Must be non-slippery.
- Width: Minimum of 75 cm.
- Strength: Should support the intended load safely.
10.2 Gangways
- Construction: Properly built with adequate width.
- Planks (if used):
- Laid parallel to the gangway’s length.
- Fastened securely to prevent displacement.
- Must be uniform in thickness.
- Fitted with cleats for safe footing.
- Obstruction: Kept clear of excavated materials or any hindrance.
- Suspended Pathways/Gangways:
- Must have guardrails and side supports to prevent falls into the excavation.
10.3 Ladders
- Quantity:
- Hazardous Work: At least one ladder per 15 m of excavation length (or fraction thereof).
- Less Hazardous Work: At least one ladder per 30 m of excavation length (or fraction thereof).
- Extension: Must extend at least 1 meter above the top edge of the excavation for easy access.
- Standards: Should be constructed, used, maintained, and inspected as per IS 3696 (Part 2): 1991.
